What are Food Hygiene Ratings?
Food hygiene ratings are given by local authorities to food businesses in the UK. They show how well businesses are meeting food hygiene law. The scheme operates in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Businesses are rated from 0 to 5, with 5 being the best:
- 5 - Very Good: Hygiene standards are very good
- 4 - Good: Hygiene standards are good
- 3 - Generally Satisfactory: Hygiene standards are generally satisfactory
- 2 - Improvement Necessary: Some improvement is necessary
- 1 - Major Improvement Necessary: Major improvement is necessary
- 0 - Urgent Improvement Necessary: Urgent improvement is required
